ShadowIRC Quick Start

The first step in getting ShadowIRC up and running, of course, is to download it. Then, decompress it, and open the ShadowIRC folder.

Now, double-click on ShadowIRC to launch it. A window will appear. This is the Console, where you connect to different servers, disconnect, and, if you choose, receive private messages and server notices. To begin to configure the client, choose Preferences from the File menu.

The window that pops up is the first of many preferences panels. You select different ones by using the drop-down menu on the upper left. They are, mainly, self-descriptive. There are also a lot of them. Almost every feature of ShadowIRC can be turned on or off, and tweaked in various ways. Play around in them later.

For now, begin customizing ShadowIRC by entering the name of the connection. This can be anything you want, usually descriptive of the IRC network it connects to. For example, for a connection to Undernet, one could set the Connection Name to Undernet.
